In late October of 2022, we hosted our first official mushroom foray! We teamed up with the Kaw Valley Mycological Society to make this event happen! Folks met outside of the Pearson farmhouse and listened to Kerry Altenbernd tell the story of Black Jack! Then we hiked the woodland trails in search of fungi.
After an hour or so of searching, foragers met back at the Pearson house with samples of mushrooms they discovered. Members of KVMS helped with identification and took note of species collected. They also gave advice about when and where to find mushrooms. It was an exceptionally windy day and an extremely dry autumn, which resulted in only finding a few fresh mushrooms. We are hopeful that the next foray will be more fruitful.
